Kings of England Eadmund Silver Penny 939-946AD Crowned bust
21mm, 1.46g, North 697, SCBC 1106
Bust Crowned (BC) (BMC vi). Uncertain mint; Boiga/Boga, moneyer. Crowned and draped bust right / + BΘI:·Θ ·Λ·ΛONI:·TΛE, small cross pattée. Cf. CTCE 257-8 (for similar moneyer name); Boga/Boiga is a known Chester and Derby moneyer for Athelstan Circumscription Cross (928-936AD) so, perhaps, not unreasonable to link him to these mints during the reign of Eadmund (939-946AD).
A rarely offered portrait piece of king Eadmund, weakly struck in places but still a presentable example of this seldom seen type.
