An exceptional coin, full flan, bold strike and good metal. Rarely do middle Saxon pennies appear this nice.
The eldest son of Edward the Elder, he succeeded in the re-conquest of Danish controlled territory with the capture of York in 927AD. He introduced the coinage law at Grately which stated that there should be one coinage throughout the kings land and no minting except in a port; it also outlined the quota of moneyers for each borough.
