Following the death of William Rufus, his younger brother Henry claimed the throne of England. Notably, there was a period of monetary crisis during the reign, which led to a public lack of confidence in the quality of the coinage minted. In response, coins were officially mutilated with an edge incision when issued to force the public to accept damaged coins.
A lovely example of the annulets type, struck on a round flan & in good metal. Norman coins in this grade are scarce.
