Charles I Gold Unite 1625-1649ADmm. Lis
£4,500.00
Charles I Gold Unite 1625-1649AD. Square topped shield, mm. Lis
34mm, S2685
A wonderful example, especially the portrait.
The Unite, first introduced by James I to replace the sovereign, was struck again under Charles I as a 20-shilling (£1) gold coin. This issue, for the first time, had a figure ‘XX’ on the obverse besides the portrait of Charles to denote a value of 20-shillings.
