This coin comes with a rough find area provenance.
Historically the Chute stater was always attributed to the Durotriges tribe but recent thinking has rearributed them to the Belgae, which consists a number of coin issuing tribes centered around Hampshire. The likelihood is that these were produced by an unnamed tribe, occupying land in modern day Hampshire/Dorset probably on the coast and with very good relationships to neighbouring tribes meaning that these were traded across the whole area, alongside other coinage. Hoards have been recorded in Dorset consisting of Chute type gold staters and Cranborne Chase silver staters, evidence that these were very much used by the Durotriges tribe during the 1st Century BC.
