Henry II Silver Tealby Penny 1154-1189AD
19mm, 1.34g
During the first few years Henry’s reign the coinage of King Stephen continued to be produced, but in order to restore the public’s confidence in the currency a new standard was introduced, known as the Tealby penny, so named after a hoard found at Tealby, Lincolnshire in 1807. Thirty mints were employed in this initial recoinage by the first Plantagenet king.
This example shows some good detail for the issue.
