Arcadius, Hispanic in origin, was Roman Emperor in the east, co-ruling with his father from 383-395AD then solely from 395 to 408AD. He was the eldest son of Theodosius I and Aelia Flaccilla, and brother of the emperor Honorius, who ruled the western empire. His ministers and wife, Aelia Eudoxia, had much political influence during his reign.
