Reverse shows Gaius & Lucius Caesars. Gaius, together with his younger brother, Lucius Caesar were raised by their grandfather Augustus as his adopted sons and joint-heirs to the empire, though neither outlived Augustus.
Augustus established a monetary system which lasted c.200 years. He standardised the aureus to one forty second of a pound of gold.
