Quietus Silver Antoninianus 260-261AD
20mm, 2.88g
Quietus was a military commander under the emperor Valerian I. He and his brother Macrianus Minor gained office, elected by troops, in the eastern empire after the capture of Valerian I, while his official co-emperor Gallienus was based in the west.
Macrianus and his father were subsequently defeated in Europe by Gallienus, leaving Quietus in the east. The Roman client king of Palmyra, Odaenathus, removed Quietus in 261AD, who fled to Emesa and was killed there, possibly by conspiracy.
